Top Movies of All Time

We look at the top movies of all time, movies that regardless of age remains one of the best. In no particular order as there are too many to mention I will list the top twenty.


The Godfather

From director Francis Ford Coppola, The Godfather needs no introduction with top actors like Robert Duval, Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. The story that spans over 1945 to 1955 of a New York crime family was released back in 1972.


Schindler’s List

The 1993 released Schindler’s List stars Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson from top director and producer Steven Spielberg. It is the life and story of a German Businessman Oskar Schindler who saved thousands during the Holocaust.


The 13th Warrior

The 13th Warrior released in 1999 by director John McTiernan boast top actors Vladimir Kulich, Dennis Storhoim Diane Venora and Antonio Banderas. A story of love, Vikings and threats embroiling.


The Silence of the Lambs

This epic Horror/Thriller from director Jonathan Demme, stars Anthony Heald, Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. Released in 1991 it is the story of a confined killer, Dr. Hannibal Lector used by an FBI agent to uncover a serial killer.


Lord of the Rings: Two Towers

Even though the complete Lord of the Rings were excellent this 2002 release remains one of the best with San and Frodo, having a mission to complete. With actors Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood it comes from director Peter Jackson.


Gladiator

The excellent Joaquin Phoenix and Russell Crowe stars in Gladiator, released in 2000 as Maximus who as confidant and general of Caesar, gets sold by the latest Caesar through jealousy of the throne of which Maximus is the rightful heir. Maximus fights as gladiator in his quest for revenge.


Avatar

From director James Cameron the 2009 released Avatar is also the highest grossing movie to date. With top actors Michelle Rodrigues, Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington it is the story of paraplegic Jake’s live and adventure on Pandora with the Na’vi its inhabitants. Human invasion, beautiful scenery and Jake in the middle of war.


Bourne Identity, Bourne Ultimatum

Incredible action from director Doug Liman, starring Matt Damon about a man fighting for his life while he has no memory or identification.


Braveheart

The 1995 released Braveheart with Mel Gibson as actor and director too is an excellent portrayal from Mel Gibson as soldier revolting against the King of England after his bride is killed for defending herself after a rape attempt from an English soldier.


Casino Royale

James Bond 007 plays in Casino Royale, released in 2006 with Daniel Craig as Bond with co-stars Jeffrey Wright, Judi Dench and Eva Green. As the name suggests is it playing off in a casino during a high stakes poker game and also Bond’s first mission.


Troy

From director Wolfgang Petersen and an excellent cast including Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Eric Bana and Julian Glover is the epic Troy. Released in 2004 about Troy assaulted by Greek forces.


Planet of the Apes

We are referring to the first release back in 1968 from director Franklin J. Schaffner. It stars Kim Hunter, Roddy McDowell, Charlton Heston and Maurice Evans about astronaut crew who landed in the distant future with apes the dominant species on the planet and humans used as slaves.


The Dark Knight

Co-written, directed and produced by Christopher Nolan and based on the comic superhero Batman is the 2008 released sequel of Batman Begins in 2005. The Dark Night is played by Christian Bale as batman, and other actors include Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman.


Titanic

Everybody knows Titanic about the sinking of the ship with careers launched of today’s top actors Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.


Tootsie

Tootsie, the 1982 movie directed by director Sidney Pollack with excellent cast Jessica Lange, Bill Murray and Dustin Hoffman who played the role of a nanny cross-dressing as woman to look after his own kids.


To Kill a Mockingbird

A brilliant portrayal of a lawyer played by Gregory Peck who defends a young black man and he is faced with prejudice. Made in 1962 by director Robert Mulligan.


Taxi Driver

Robert De Niro plays a taxi driver in a seedy 1976 Gotham movie alongside Jodie Foster who plays a prostitute. Taxi Driver is directed by Martin Scorsese.


Dog Day Afternoon

Al Pacino plays an incompetent, homosexual, yet likable bank robber who decides to rob a Brooklyn bank during the day and with Penelope Allen and John Cazale it is a brilliant movie made in 1975.


The Bridge on the River Kwai

Made years ago in 1957 it remains a firm favourite from director David Lean. With excellent performances from Jack Hawkins, Alec Guinness and William Holden it is about building a bridge for a Japanese POW commander.


Gone with the Wind

Brilliant movie from director Victor Flemming, made in 1939. Starring Barbara O’Neal, Thomas Mitchell, Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable it is the story of a Southern woman with an affair during the American Civil War.
